Road-trip dispatches, driving guides, and firsthand accounts of Mongolia's greatest routes.

Mongolia's deepest lake, a forest road through larch and pine, and one of the most rewarding multi-day drives in Central Asia.
The Khövsgöl route from Mörön is 800 km of varied terrain — tarmac to gravel to forest track to muddy river crossing. It's one of those routes that makes you understand exactly why a capable SUV isn't a luxury, it's a requirement.
Start from Erdenet (our branch there is a perfect launchpad), head northwest to Mörön, then loop the lake. Budget 4–5 days if you want to stop properly — the eastern shore has guesthouses and ger camps; the western shore is mostly wilderness.
